Still thinking about my SaaS post and I'm doubling down on it with this caveat. A friend pointed out that it's probably going to be true for small businesses but less true for medium sized businesses, and large businesses won't do it at all. I think that is true in the short term.
But in the mid term I think even medium sized businesses will start building their own services instead of just signing up for a SaaS.
I am an extremely small business with no budget whatsoever beyond my Copilot subscription. I was however able to build a SaaS that would have easily cost me a hundred or more a month. I was even able to implement a feature that, when the page is displayed on my phone, I have access to the camera.
Medium and large businesses still have the "Is it our core business?" mentality, but as soon as they figure out that they can get services specifically tailored to their needs and not the lowest common denominator, I think that mentality will change.
